The Department of Education and Training announced on the afternoon of 29/1 that Hanoi has chosen English as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026. This decision follows similar announcements from over 10 other provinces and cities, most of which also selected English or a foreign language. Tuyen Quang, however, opted for natural sciences.
The Ministry of Education and Training's 10th grade admissions regulations, effective from 2025, allow localities to choose between entrance exams, academic record review, or a combination for 10th grade admission. Should entrance exams be selected, the examination will comprise mathematics, literature, and a third subject or a combined test. This third subject must be chosen from a group including: foreign language, civic education, natural sciences, history and geography, technology, and informatics. Localities are, however, prohibited from selecting the same subject for more than three consecutive years, with the announcement deadline set for 31/3.
