High school graduation exam scores drop sharply, especially in math

Except for physics, average scores on this year's high school graduation exams have decreased compared to last year. Math scores saw the biggest drop, falling 1.67 points below average.

The Ministry of Education and Training released the score distributions for 12 high school graduation exam subjects on 15/7. The average scores ranged from 4.78 to 7.72. Math had the lowest average, while agricultural technology had the highest.

Comparing 9 subjects common to both the 2024 (under the 2006 curriculum) and 2025 exams, math scores saw the most significant change, dropping from 6.45 to 4.78. The distribution shifted from right-skewed to left-skewed, indicating a decrease in the proportion of high scores.

Chemistry followed with a decrease of 0.62 points compared to last year, landing at 6.06. The remaining subjects saw average score decreases ranging from 0.05 to 0.56 points.

Physics was the only subject with an increase, rising from 6.67 to 6.99. It also saw a substantial jump in the number of perfect scores, from 55 last year to nearly 3,930 this year.

Over 1.16 million students took the high school graduation exam on 26-27/6. Nearly 1.14 million of these students were tested under the new 2018 curriculum.

The Ministry of Education and Training will announce the exam results at 8:00 AM on 16/7. Students can check their scores on VnExpress at: https://diemthi.vnexpress.net.

After receiving their scores, students have 10 days to submit an appeal for re-marking, with a deadline of 25/7. Students will receive their score reports, provisional graduation certificates, and high school transcripts by 22/7.

University application registration and adjustments will be open from 16/7 to 5:00 PM on 28/7, with no limit on the number of adjustments. Application fees can be paid online from 29/7 to 5:00 PM on 5/8.

University admission scores will be announced before 5:00 PM on 22/8.
