Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (HCMULAW) will award bonus points for international language certificates during its 2026 admissions cycle. Master Le Van Hien, Head of the Training Department at HCMULAW, announced on 17/1 that these bonus point levels are based on last year’s admission regulations. The university will widely announce any adjustments if the Ministry of Education and Training modifies its policies this year.
The university applies bonus points for English, Japanese, French, Chinese, and Korean certificates in its combined admission method. To be eligible, candidates must achieve a total average score of three subjects from their high school academic transcripts over six semesters of 22,5 or higher, with grade 12 results accounting for at least 25% of this average.
In addition to academic performance, applicants must possess a minimum IELTS certificate score of 5.5, a TOEFL iBT score of 65, a French DELF B1 certificate, or achieve 300 points per skill in the French TCF test. For Japanese language proficiency, a JLPT N3 certificate or higher is required. Candidates opting to use SAT scores must achieve a minimum of 1,150 out of 1,600.
The combined admission score is calculated by summing the total points from the three-subject combination, any bonus points, and priority points. International language certificates and SAT scores will be converted into these bonus points according to the following tiers:
| IELTS Score | TOEFL iBT Score | SAT Score | Bonus Points |
| 5.5 | 65-72 | 1,150-1,200 | 2 |
| 6.0 | 73-80 | 1,210-1,260 | 2,25 |
| 6.5 | 81-88 | 1,270-1,320 | 2,5 |
| 7.0 | 89-95 | 1,330-1,380 | 2,75 |
| 7.5 or higher | 95 or higher | 1,390 or higher | 3 |
Bonus point levels for Japanese, French, Chinese, and Korean certificates are as follows:
| French DELF Certificate Score | French TCF Certificate Score | Japanese JLPT Certificate Score | Chinese HSK Certificate Score | Bonus Points |
| B1 | Equivalent to B1 | N3 | HSK 3 | 3 |
| B2 | Equivalent to B2 | N2 | HSK 4 | 2,5 |
| C1 or higher | Equivalent to C1 or higher | N1 | HSK 5 or higher | 3 |
Beyond the combined admission method, HCMULAW also admits students through several other channels: direct admission; priority admission for students from 149 universities, similar to the National University of Ho Chi Minh City in previous years; high school graduation exam scores; and V-SAT university entrance assessment test scores.
HCMULAW emphasizes that it will not utilize foreign language exam exemption results from the 2026 high school graduation exam. Furthermore, it will not convert language certificates into foreign language subject scores for inclusion in admission subject combinations.
For the upcoming admission cycle, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law has removed subject blocks C00 (Literature, History, Geography) and A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry). Instead, it has added a series of new combinations based on two common subjects: Literature and Foreign Language.
This year, the university is expanding its academic offerings by opening new majors, including Digital Economics, E-commerce, Financial Technology, and Chinese Language, aiming for multi-disciplinary and multi-field training.
Last year, HCMULAW admitted approximately 3,400 students across seven majors. The cut-off scores ranged from 18,12 to 25,65, with most decreasing by one to four points compared to 2024.
