Last week, the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (HUS), announced a list of programs in fundamental sciences, key engineering, and strategic technologies eligible for scholarships under Decree 179. Students admitted to these fields can receive monthly support of 3,7 to 5,5 million dong, totaling 37 to 55 million dong annually, provided they meet certain conditions. The scholarship duration is no more than four years.
Conditions for receiving and maintaining the scholarship vary by program. Students enrolled in gifted programs are eligible for the highest amount, 55 million dong per year.
Students pursuing semiconductor microchip technology and other key fundamental science fields will receive 42 million dong. Most of the University of Natural Sciences' programs fall into this category.
A scholarship of 37 million dong applies to programs in strategic technology and key engineering.

Additionally, the University of Natural Sciences offers 20 master's and 34 doctoral programs that are also eligible for scholarships under Decree 179. Master's students receive monthly support of 5,5 to 7,4 million dong, while doctoral research students receive 7,4 to 8,4 million dong per month.
In 2026, the University of Natural Sciences plans to admit 2,510 students across 28 fields. Expected tuition fees at HUS range from 19,1 to 40 million dong, depending on the field and program.
HUS noted, "For students who love discovery and are passionate about science, facing the choice of their aspirations for 2026, the scholarship policy from Decree 179 provides strong financial security, allowing them to focus on their studies."
