Many universities award Tet bonuses of 20-40 million dong to lecturers

Tet bonuses at universities are typically based on seniority and job position, commonly ranging from 20-40 million dong, maintaining or slightly increasing from last year.

At the University of Information Technology (UIT), Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Tet bonuses are distinctly tiered. Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Rector in charge, stated that this year's Tet expenditure for 400 staff and lecturers is about 10 billion dong.

Employees with one year or more of service receive 70% of their monthly salary, along with approximately 7,5 million dong from the bonus fund. Those who have worked for six to 11 months receive 35% of their monthly salary and 3,75 million dong.

"The highest Tet bonus for an employee is about 60 million dong," Associate Professor, Doctor Khang stated.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE), employees receive one month's salary and a fixed amount, which covers uniform costs, lunch, and on-campus utility services. With this calculation, lecturers' Tet bonuses vary based on their position and seniority.

"Last year, the fixed amount was 25 million dong; this year, it is expected to rise slightly. Additionally, many people received salary increases, leading to higher bonuses," a university representative shared.

Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry (IUH) plans to allocate over 68 billion dong for Tet bonuses for approximately 1,600 staff and lecturers. Each person receives a 13th-month salary plus an additional bonus, averaging about 40 million dong.

Calculated based on salary coefficients, universities reported that overall Tet bonuses for lecturers and staff are similar to or slightly higher than last year.

In contrast, Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry (HUIT) has applied a uniform Tet bonus level for the past 10 years, extending from the rector to security guards and cleaners.

Each HUIT employee receives a total of 30 million dong, an increase of two million dong compared to last year. This amount includes 27 million dong received before Tet and three million dong as a lucky money gift on the first day of work. A university representative shared that this policy aims to foster cohesion and appreciate the contributions of all departments.

According to Government Decree 60 of 2021, universities divide their annual financial results into four funds: the Career Development Fund (at least 25%), the Income Supplement Fund, the Reward and Welfare Fund, and Other Funds.

Universities that have covered all or part of their regular expenditures are permitted to allocate 1,5 to three months of annual salaries and wages to the Reward and Welfare Fund. This amount is usually disbursed by universities at the end of the year, known as "Tet bonuses."

Among private universities, Tet bonuses are primarily based on internal spending regulations and labor contract agreements.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Nguyen Quoc Anh, Vice Rector, stated that lecturers and staff receive a 13th-month salary, averaging 20-30 million dong. For management levels, the bonus is about 50 million dong.
