Military Technical Academy boasts low student-teacher ratio

The Military Technical Academy (MTA) maintains a low 4:1 student-teacher ratio, among the lowest in technical universities, benefiting students.

Colonel Tran Quang Dung, Deputy Head of the Training Department at the MTA, stated on 10/9 that this ratio includes the nearly 950 newly enrolled students.

This year, the MTA resumed civilian enrollment with 600 slots, after halting it in 2019 due to military restructuring. The academy confirms it can accommodate the increased enrollment. The 4:1 student-teacher ratio, meaning one teacher for every 4 students, is considered exceptionally low.

"This allows each instructor to dedicate more time to individual students, enhancing the quality of teaching and learning," Dung said. "Students will have more opportunities to participate in scientific research under the direct guidance of their professors."

According to the "Three Publics" reports of universities, the student-teacher ratio at Hanoi University of Science and Technology last academic year varied from 6:1 to 20:1 depending on the department, with the technical group exceeding 16:1. The ratios at Hanoi University of Industry and Hanoi University of Science and Technology were 27:1 and 32:1, respectively.

This year, the MTA offers 600 civilian student slots across 8 majors: Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Security, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Construction Engineering. Tuition averages 1.85 million VND per month.

Unlike military students, civilian students are not required to undergo preliminary selection, are not exempt from tuition fees, and are not guaranteed job placement after graduation. However, they receive instruction from the same faculty as military students and have access to all campus facilities.

The admission scores for civilian students at the MTA range from 20.25 to 26.51, while military students' scores range from 26.4 to 29.25. Among the nearly 950 new students, 35 achieved a perfect admission score of 30/30 (including priority points and bonus points).
