The Ministry of Education and Training announced on the evening of 13/7 that students from Tuyen Quang specialized high school are permitted to register for university admissions, even as authorities expedite investigations into "abnormally high" math scores at the school.
During the ongoing investigation and pending a conclusion, candidates from this examination center may still register their applications according to the general admissions schedule, which closes at 17h on 14/7.
"Should any candidate be found to have violated examination or admissions regulations, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with current rules, reflecting the nature and severity of the infringement," the Ministry stated.
The decision follows an investigation into unusual math scores in Tuyen Quang province. According to high school graduation exam results announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on the morning of 1/7, Tuyen Quang province ranked 28th out of 34 provinces and cities for average math scores, with an average of 5,069 points. However, the province recorded 154 perfect scores of 10 out of nearly 17,600 candidates, accounting for 0,88% — the second highest percentage nationwide. More than 140 of these perfect scores came from students at Tuyen Quang specialized high school.
In response, the Tuyen Quang Provincial Police have initiated criminal proceedings against 19 individuals, all under investigation for abusing their positions and authority while performing public duties. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hang, deputy principal of Nguyen Van Huyen High School, is accused of instructing and guiding several invigilators, in her role as head of the examination center, to facilitate conditions for candidates during the math exam. Following these instructions, Mr. Nguyen Ha Duy, the examination secretary, allegedly "entered the examination room and directly guided" some candidates.
