Ministry refutes claims of 5th-grade textbook omitting Quang Trung

Information circulating online that 5th-grade history and geography textbooks only teach about Nguyen Anh, omitting Quang Trung and the Tay Son movement, is "deliberate defamation," according to the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education and Training announced on 2/1 that false and distorted information regarding historical content in textbooks is spreading on social media.

Specifically, some accounts claimed that 5th-grade history and geography textbooks only feature Nguyen Anh (Gia Long) while "bypassing" Quang Trung and the Tay Son movement.

After reviewing the curriculum, the Ministry confirmed that content about Quang Trung and the Tay Son movement is fully and systematically presented across multiple grade levels, including 4th grade (History and Geography), and 7th and 8th grades (History).

Content concerning the Nguyen Dynasty and Nguyen Anh also receives objective and comprehensive coverage in 5th-grade History and Geography, and 7th and 8th-grade History. The 5th-grade textbook includes a lesson titled "The establishment of the Nguyen Dynasty."

This arrangement aligns with the logical progression of history, age-appropriate psychology, and the principles of the 2018 General Education Program. The program ensures scientific accuracy and objectivity, avoiding approaches that idolize or make moral judgments about individuals.

The Ministry of Education and Training has requested the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and clarify the motives and objectives behind the creation and dissemination of these false and distorted claims and comments.

The aim is to strictly address violations and ensure political security within the education and training sector. The Ministry also advises the public not to share or comment on this information without proper basis.
