Dr. Le Anh Duc, head of the training management department at NEU, shared this on Tuesday, July 17th, after analyzing the score distribution of subjects and the overall performance in the 2025 high school graduation exam.
The average scores of candidates in the five traditional university admission combinations decreased by 0.8-2.1 points compared to 2024. The B00 combination (Math, Chemistry, Biology) saw the most significant drop, followed by A01 (Math, Physics, English - down 1.59 points), A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry - down 1.52 points), C00 (Literature, History, Geography - down 1.24 points), and D01 (Math, Literature, English - down 0.88 points).
Score distribution of 5 combinations - 2025 benchmark prediction
Therefore, Duc believes that university admission scores will be lower than last year, especially in combinations involving Math and English. He predicts an overall decrease of around 2-3 points. For NEU, the benchmark could decrease by 1-2 points, depending on the major and program.
However, candidates should not rely on last year's benchmarks when making their choices. This year, all universities must convert scores from various methods and combinations to a common scale. For example, in 2024, the admission score for a program might have been 26 points based on the quota for a specific combination, but this year, it could be 25 points after conversion.
"Students should remain calm and prioritize their preferred majors when applying. Avoid worrying if your score is lower than last year and don't hesitate to choose the program you want to study," Duc said.

This year, NEU is admitting 8,200 full-time students across 73 majors and nearly 90 programs. Two new programs are labor relations and international trade law.
The three admission methods remain the same as last year: First is direct admission, accounting for 3% of the quota, applied to students in one of the following groups: policy beneficiaries, those eligible for direct admission according to Ministry of Education and Training regulations; national excellent student competition third-prize winners; first-prize winners or higher in national science and technology competitions.
Second is admission based on the 2025 high school graduation exam results with four combinations: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English), and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English). The minimum entry requirement (floor score) for this method is 20 points, similar to recent years.
Third is combined admission, for three groups of candidates: Group 1 includes those with international SAT certificates from 1200/1600 or ACT 26/36 and above. These are two common standardized tests in the US.
Group 2 is for candidates with competency and aptitude test scores of at least 85/150 HSA, 700/1200 APT, or 60/100 TSA. These candidates can apply independently with these scores, or combine them with international English certificates such as IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 46 and above.
Group 3 consists of candidates with English certificates, considered in combination with high school graduation exam scores in Math and one other subject. Certificate requirements are similar to Group 2.
The university will announce the score conversion formula between methods before 23/7.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, tuition fees at NEU range from 18-25 million VND for standard programs.
