Nghe An's top scorer achieves "double first" in provincial math and physics competitions

From a high school in a rural area, Le Minh Hieu clinched the top spot in block A00 with 29,75 points and secured first prizes in both the provincial math and physics competitions.

Le Minh Hieu, a student from class 12A1 at Quynh Luu 1 High School, achieved perfect scores in math and chemistry, along with 9,75 points in physics. These results were part of the exam score data released by the Ministry of Education and Training on 1/7.

He was not only the top scorer for block A00 in Nghe An province but also one of the three candidates with the highest total score across four subjects, achieving 37,75 points, including 8 points in literature.

Hieu recounted his overwhelming reaction when the results appeared on screen, his heart pounding in disbelief. He had estimated around 29 points but never expected to be the top scorer.

"My parents were at work. When I called them with the news, they were both speechless for a few seconds, deeply moved, and then told me how proud they were," Hieu shared.

Hieu is the second child in his family, residing in Quynh Luu commune. He was consistently an excellent student throughout his 12 years of schooling. At Quynh Luu 1 High School, situated in a rural area, he stood out as an exemplary student and served as the class's academic representative.

During the past academic year, Hieu secured first prize in the provincial student competitions for both math and physics. He believes this preparation built a strong foundation, giving him an advantage in the national high school graduation exam.

Reflecting on this year's exams, Hieu noted that the physics paper was notably challenging, with many basic questions that could easily lead to lost points if not thoroughly understood, making it harder than previous years. Conversely, he found the math and chemistry exams manageable, confidently aiming for scores above 9 points in both.

Discussing his study approach, Hieu emphasized understanding core concepts over rote memorization. In class, he focused on lectures. In the evenings, he primarily reviewed textbook material before consulting additional resources and online practice questions.

Hieu typically studied from 20h to over 23h each evening, intensifying practice tests during the final phase to refine skills and consolidate knowledge. In the week leading up to the graduation exam, he consciously reduced his study load, prioritizing rest, convinced that a relaxed mindset would enhance his performance.

Hieu admitted to feeling fatigued when facing difficult problems, often tempted to give up. However, recalling his goals, he always persevered to find solutions. He stated that the greatest challenge wasn't the knowledge itself, but maintaining daily persistence and discipline.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, Hieu's homeroom teacher for class 12A1, described him as a student with strong willpower, consistently setting high goals and striving to surpass his own limits. She attributes his achievement as Nghe An's top scorer to his persistent effort and clear academic focus.

"This result does not surprise me," Ms. Tam said.

Beyond academics, Hieu actively engaged in school extracurricular activities and the Youth Union. He was admitted to the Party on 13/6.

Hieu plans to apply for admission to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, focusing on engineering fields.
