On july 1, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the 2026 high school graduation exam scores for over 1.2 million candidates. Students in 12th grade took four subjects: compulsory mathematics and literature, along with two electives. Meanwhile, over 63,800 private candidates registered for a flexible number of subjects, primarily three, for university admission consideration.
The national average score was 5.722, which is 0.448 lower than last year. Overall, average scores for many localities decreased, and rankings shifted compared to the previous year.
Ninh Binh achieved an average score of 6.322, climbing two ranks from last year to secure the leading position, unseating Nghe An. In second place, Ha Noi recorded an average score of 6.184, also rising three ranks.
Five other provinces with an average high school graduation exam score above 6 include: Hai Phong, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Phu Tho, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Conversely, Son La was the only locality with an average score below 5, ranking last among 34 provinces and cities. The bottom five provinces also include: Vinh Long, Dak Lak, Dien Bien, and Cao Bang.
This year, the number of high school graduation exam candidates reached a record high of 1.2 million. Beyond being a requirement for graduation recognition, exam scores are mandatory for university and college admissions, regardless of the admission method used.
The Ministry of Education and Training announced the exam scores on 1/7. Candidates can access their results on VnExpress at: https://diemthi.vnexpress.net for additional data, including score distribution and rankings against peers with similar subject combinations.
After receiving their scores, candidates have five days to request a review if needed. The deadline for reviews is 5/7.
From 2/7, candidates can begin registering and adjusting their university and college admission preferences on the Ministry's system. This period extends until 17h on 14/7. University admission thresholds and candidate pass/fail results will be announced after 17h on 9/8.
