The incident occurred on the evening of 16/9. Authorities initially determined the cause was a personal conflict. A 13-year-old eighth-grade student from Tan Hanh Secondary School alleged that a ninth-grade student had spoken ill of her mother. Consequently, she recruited two classmates and a student from Nguyen Truong To Secondary School to carry out the assault.

Knowing the victim sold items online, the group pretended to purchase clothes. One member of the group then drove a moped to the victim's home, taking her to Mau Than Park in Phuoc Hau ward to collect payment. Upon arrival, the group immediately grabbed her hair, pushed her to the ground, and repeatedly punched, kicked, and stomped on her, leaving her motionless before fleeing the scene.

Approximately 10 students from Tan Hanh and Nguyen Truong To secondary schools watched the incident without intervening, instead recording it on their phones and sharing the video with friends. The video subsequently circulated on social media, causing concern due to accompanying information that the victim had suffered a "traumatic brain injury".

The ninth-grade student was taken by her family to Vinh Long Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment, where she was found to have superficial head wounds and multiple injuries. Although discharged on 17/9, she was re-admitted the following afternoon to Xuyen A Vinh Long General Hospital due to severe abdominal pain. Doctors diagnosed the victim with a right liver injury, monitoring for a grade II liver contusion, and requested hospitalization for treatment.

According to regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, the highest disciplinary action within schools for violating middle and high school students is a written self-criticism. In serious cases, students may face prosecution, depending on their age.
