Principal suspended amid allegations of substandard food in school meals

The principal of Trung Vuong primary school in Da Lat has been suspended for 15 days following accusations of low-quality food being served in the school's lunch program.

The People's Committee of Xuan Huong ward in Da Lat announced on 25/9 that Nguyen Thai Quynh Nga was suspended from her duties, effective the previous day, for "failing to perform tasks within her assigned authority."

The head of the ward's Culture and Social Affairs Department will temporarily oversee Trung Vuong primary school.

10 days prior, a former kitchen staff member posted allegations on social media claiming substandard food had been used in meals for students, including foul-smelling, discolored pork and unlabeled, strangely scented frozen beef balls.

Many parents immediately withdrew their children from the lunch program, demanding clarification from the school administration.

According to a report from Trung Vuong primary school, for the 2024-2025 school year, the school contracted with 5 suppliers for fresh food to prepare lunches for 720 students. The school administration acknowledged that the kitchen staff had reported instances of discolored and foul-smelling shrimp, meat, and bones.

The school stated that any questionable food was returned or replaced and not served to students. Regarding the beef balls, the supplier explained they had been pre-cooked and frozen, so the school continued to use them. When boiled meat changed color, the school requested an inspection, which concluded there were no abnormalities.

On 22/9, Trung Vuong primary school announced the temporary suspension of its lunch program. The Lam Dong provincial police are investigating the matter.
