School praises top 10 early students, sparks online buzz

Hai Phong Maritime High School honored its ten earliest students to foster discipline, attracting thousands of interactions and positive responses.

The article, posted by Hai Phong Maritime High School on 13/1, featured data extracted from the "parking log" from late last year.

The ten earliest students arrived between 6:15 am and 6:27 am, according to the system, which also displayed their full names, classes, vehicle types, and portrait photos.

“It’s not about 'being cool by arriving early,' but rather commendable awareness, discipline, and a strong learning spirit,” Hai Phong Maritime High School wrote on its fanpage, calling the students “dawn warriors.”

The post quickly garnered nearly 6,000 interactions and spread across social media forums on the morning of 14/1. Most comments praised and supported the school’s innovative approach.

Speaking with VnExpress, Principal Pham Anh Phong expressed his "joy and surprise" that the post had spread and generated positive sentiment.

Phong stated that the idea to praise early-arriving students originated from the school’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. At the start of this academic year, the school completed renovations of its parking garage and implemented an AI camera management system, developed by one of its teachers.

Noticing some students arriving late after the 7 am class start, teachers decided to use the parking data to commend early arrivals, encouraging students to be more punctual. This student recognition occurs monthly during flag ceremonies. Additionally, the school also praises students who demonstrate good discipline.

“Since then, we have observed students arriving at school earlier, with almost no one coming late,” Phong said. “Both teachers and students are excited, so yesterday’s post served to encourage them to continue maintaining their sense of discipline.”

Luu Phuong Anh, a student in class 12A9, who has been praised multiple times before the school and featured in the top 10 fanpage post, felt “happy and proud” to have her efforts recognized, even for what she considered a “very small” action.

“I find this to be a very positive way to motivate and encourage students,” the student said.

Phuong Anh lives 6 km from the school. She typically wakes at 4 am to study, gets ready by 5 am, and leaves home at 6 am. She maintains the habit of arriving early to avoid any unexpected situations.

The student hopes the school will introduce more forms of recognition for disciplined and high-achieving students to sustain a positive and disciplined learning environment.

Hai Phong Maritime High School was established in 1989 under the administration of Vietnam Maritime University. In 2010, it transitioned from a semi-public and private model to a fully private institution.

This academic year, the school enrolls nearly 800 students.
