Six universities in TP HCM offer monthly scholarships of 3,7-5,5 million VND for specific majors

Students pursuing fundamental sciences, key engineering, or strategic technology programs at six universities in TP HCM are eligible for monthly financial support ranging from 3,7 to 5,5 million VND.

The list of eligible programs was updated on 4/8. This scholarship policy is established under Government Decree 179.

Specifically, students pursuing semiconductor microchip and fundamental science majors, provided they meet specific criteria, will receive 4,5 million VND monthly. Those in key engineering and strategic technology fields are eligible for 3,7 million VND. Students enrolled in talent programs within these disciplines will receive 5,5 million VND per month.

The Ministry of Education and Training estimates that this year, approximately 30,000-32,000 new students across 111 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) majors will qualify for these scholarships.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training, this year saw 874,800 candidates register for university admissions, submitting approximately 7,18 million aspirations. Nearly 467,600 of these students opted for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) majors, representing 53,45% of applicants. STEM-related aspirations totaled almost 2,37 million, accounting for about 33% of all applications.

University representatives widely agree that the Decree 179 scholarship policy serves as a significant impetus, influencing student choices.
