Top 20 schools with the most students admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Science

Seventeen out of the 20 high schools with the highest number of students admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Science this year are from Ho Chi Minh City.

This data was first announced by the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science (HCMUS), Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, on 12/9.

This year, the university admitted over 4,900 new students, using a comprehensive admission method for the first time, combining various scores. Mac Dinh Chi High School had the most students admitted to HCMUS with 83. Tran Phu High School followed with 80 students, and High School for the Gifted with 67.

The top 10 schools are all from Ho Chi Minh City. Among the top 20, only Thoai Ngoc Hau High School for the Gifted (An Giang), Tien Giang High School for the Gifted, and Tran Hung Dao High School for the Gifted (Lam Dong) are from other provinces or cities.

Nguyen Ngoc Tran, the candidate with the highest high school graduation exam score and national runner-up in block A00 (mathematics, physics, chemistry), achieved 29,75 points and chose the microchip design major.

Tran Tien Dat, a computer science major, achieved the highest combined admission score of 29,77/30, not including bonus points. He also earned the highest score in the history of the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, competency assessment exam, with 1139/1200.

The university stated that over 24% of this cohort's new students won awards in provincial-level gifted student and science and technology competitions. Among them, 222 students received national and international awards. Notably, Tran Dai Thanh Danh, a new student in the mathematics major (talented bachelor's program), earned a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and a gold medal at the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO).

Also choosing the same major as Danh are twin brothers Nguyen Tri Hien and Nguyen Tri Hau, who won gold medals at the Turkmenistan Mathematical Exchange Olympiad. Meanwhile, Nguyen Quang Chuong, a new computer science student, secured second place in the international high school ICPC programming competition.
