Tuyen Quang province has launched an investigation into an unusually high number of perfect 10 scores in mathematics at Tuyen Quang Specialized High School during the 2026 high school graduation exam. According to VNA, on the morning of 4/7, the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee reported this situation to the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee for Examinations.
The investigation was prompted after the Ministry of Education and Training announced graduation exam scores on the morning of 1/7, revealing striking results from Tuyen Quang Specialized High School. Initial verification showed that out of 328 students, more than 290 scored 9 or higher in mathematics, with over 140 achieving perfect 10s. The school's average mathematics score was 9,58. Considering the ratio of perfect 10s to the total number of test-takers, Tuyen Quang ranked second nationwide, trailing only Ha Tinh.
To address concerns, the provincial graduation examination council has retrieved all mathematics exam papers with perfect scores to check for any signs of intervention or grade inflation. Additionally, the council is reviewing academic transcripts for all students who achieved perfect 10s, analyzing their mathematics performance over the years.
Authorities are also interviewing each student, mathematics invigilators, and external security personnel from areas where many students achieved perfect 10s in mathematics. This aims to verify relationships between parties and promptly detect any unusual signs. All information and data related to the examination process are being reviewed.
During a meeting on the evening of 3/7, Mr. Phan Huy Ngoc, Chairman of the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee, emphasized the need for a serious and decisive investigation. He stated there would be no forbidden zones or exceptions, and any wrongdoing would be dealt with accordingly, aiming for an early official conclusion. The education sector and Tuyen Quang Specialized High School are coordinating with functional agencies to address the issue, while also working to reassure students and parents.
Currently, the provincial police have deployed 60 officers to inspect and review all related stages of the examination. Despite the ongoing investigation, a report from the provincial examination steering committee stated that "all stages of the examination were directed and implemented in accordance with the regulations set by the Ministry of Education and Training, with no errors detected in any stage." The incident remains under investigation.
