Professor Tu noted that a key reason for the Government, the Ministry of Health, and Thanh Hoa province to approve the transfer of these two central hospitals to Hanoi Medical University is the university's highly effective branch campus in Thanh Hoa. This branch trains students in numerous undergraduate and postgraduate programs, totaling over 1,800 students.
Currently, the Central Rehabilitation and Nursing Hospital serves as the national tertiary hospital for rehabilitation. Hospital 71 Trung uong specializes in lung and tuberculosis diseases, providing guidance to six provinces in the North Central region.
According to Professor Tu, Hanoi Medical University will maintain these existing operations while supporting the development of other specialties. This will enable both facilities to become general hospitals, achieving regional quality standards. Additionally, they will serve as practical training grounds for students.
Hanoi Medical University is Vietnam's leading and oldest medical training institution, educating over 16,000 students and researchers. Previously, the university operated a general hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, with three facilities, providing medical care to the public and serving as a practical training base.
Furthermore, the university's students receive practical training at major hospitals such as Bach Mai, Viet Duc, Central Obstetrics and Gynecology, and National Children's Hospital.
