The University of Transport and Communications announced on 14/1 its plan to admit over 6,700 students this year, an increase of 340 from last year. This increase is due to a new artificial intelligence major and more places in high-quality programs, aligning with its role in transport and smart infrastructure.
There are four admission methods: (PT1) based on high school graduation exam scores and direct admission for national or international award winners; (PT2) a combination of high school transcripts and graduation exam scores; (PT3) using competency assessment scores from Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM); and (PT4) based on thinking assessment scores from Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
A key change from last year is transcript-based admission. This method will only apply to candidates who achieve a math score of 5 or higher in the high school graduation exam. For the applied math major, the requirement is 6 points or higher.
Candidates meeting these conditions can apply using their high school transcripts. Scores will be calculated based on the subject combination over three years of high school, plus priority points. The math score will be multiplied by a factor of two. For the English language major, the English score will be multiplied by two. The university also requires that each subject score in the chosen combination must not be below 5,5 per academic year.
For admission based on high school graduation exam scores, the math score will also be multiplied by a factor of two for all majors, except for the English language major where the English score will be multiplied by a factor of two, similar to last year.
Bonus points will be awarded to candidates who won a third prize in provincial-level excellent student competitions or hold an IELTS certificate of 5.0 or higher. This year, UTC will not convert IELTS scores into English subject scores for relevant combinations but will only add bonus points. The exact bonus amount has not been announced.
Regarding admission combinations, for engineering and technology majors in Ha Noi, the D07 combination (Math, Chemistry, English) will be supplemented or replaced by C01 (Math, Literature, Physics). The university has used C01 effectively for admissions at its TP HCM campus for several years.
