The Government Office announced on 7/7 the conclusions of Vice Prime Minister Le Tien Chau from a meeting regarding the organization of the 2026 high school graduation exam in Tuyen Quang province. This followed the discovery of "unusual" math scores at Tuyen Quang specialized high school. The vice prime minister assessed the incident as serious, with a significant impact on the education sector and society, especially as the Party and State are currently dedicating all resources to supporting educational development, guided by the principle that "education is a top national policy".
Hours earlier, Tuyen Quang Provincial Police announced the emergency detention of Nguyen Ha Duy, a 28-year-old teacher at Tuyen Quang specialized high school. He is being investigated in connection with the 2026 high school graduation exam results at the school. After the Ministry of Education and Training announced graduation exam scores on the morning of 1/7, the results of students at Tuyen Quang specialized high school drew significant attention. Over 290 of the 328 candidates, with registration numbers ranging from 080163xx to 080166xx, scored 9 or higher in Math; more than 140 of them achieved perfect scores. This group's average score was 9,58, the highest nationwide.
To ensure objectivity and fairness, the vice prime minister urged the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee to promptly and objectively verify the incident. He also demanded strict handling of any individuals or organizations found to be in violation, in accordance with legal regulations, clearly delineating their roles, responsibilities, and the nature and extent of their transgressions.
Additionally, Tuyen Quang province was tasked with proposing remedial solutions that adhere to exam regulations and legal provisions. These solutions must ensure a humanistic approach in education, preventing genuinely capable candidates from losing their educational opportunities. The Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee is responsible for the compromised security of the exam, which has severely impacted the high school graduation exam results within the province and damaged the image and reputation of the education sector.
The vice prime minister also instructed the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Committee to conduct a comprehensive assessment and engage with all parents and students of Tuyen Quang specialized high school. Based on these discussions, the committee must recommend specific handling plans to the Ministry of Education and Training, to be completed before 9/7.
However, according to a report from the Ministry of Education and Training, this is an isolated incident and does not reflect the overall results of the entire exam.
