The 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad was held in Australia from 10/7 to 20/7, with the official competition days on the 15th and 16th. This year, 630 students from 110 countries and territories participated.
Each competition day, contestants had 4.5 hours to solve three math problems. The maximum score for each problem was 7, totaling 42. Contestants could receive the exam in their native language, but they had to register in advance and obtain approval from the organizers. Problem 2 in this year's exam was proposed by Tran Quang Hung, a teacher at the High School for Gifted Students.
Based on the total score of the two exam days, the organizers awarded prizes from highest to lowest. The total number of gold, silver, and bronze medals accounted for approximately 50% of the total number of participants.
The IMO has been held annually since 1959. Vietnam first joined this competition in 1974.
