Vietnam's international olympiad medalists choose domestic universities

16 out of 17 high school seniors who won international olympiad medals have chosen to study at Vietnamese universities, mostly in medicine and computer science.

In 2025, Vietnam had 23 students participate in the international olympiads for math, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, these students are exempt from high school graduation exams and are granted direct admission to universities.

Out of the 17 grade-12 students, one opted to study abroad, while the remaining 16 enrolled in Vietnamese universities. Five chose the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. These include Minh Hoang (international math olympiad medalist), Ba Khoi, The Quan, Duc Dung (physics), and Minh Quang (chemistry). All five enrolled in the university's talented bachelor program in their respective fields.
