In 2025, Vietnam had 23 students participate in the international olympiads for math, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, these students are exempt from high school graduation exams and are granted direct admission to universities.
Out of the 17 grade-12 students, one opted to study abroad, while the remaining 16 enrolled in Vietnamese universities. Five chose the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. These include Minh Hoang (international math olympiad medalist), Ba Khoi, The Quan, Duc Dung (physics), and Minh Quang (chemistry). All five enrolled in the university's talented bachelor program in their respective fields.

Hanoi Medical University welcomed 4 students: Hoang Khoi and Duc Dung (international chemistry olympiad), Huu Thanh, and Kieu An (biology), all choosing medicine. Dai Duong, the remaining member of the biology team, also chose medicine but opted for Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) each enrolled two students: Trong Khai and Duc Man (international math olympiad), Cong Vinh (physics), and Kien Thanh (computer science). All 4 chose computer science.
Quang Thang (international computer science olympiad medalist) chose data science at the National Economics University, while Thien Nhan (physics) opted for materials science at Phenikaa University.

The Ministry of Education and Training commended the effectiveness of the selection and training process for international olympiad competitors, noting that Vietnam maintains its position among the top 10 leading countries in these competitions.
In addition to direct university admission, gold medalists receive a 55 million VND award, while silver and bronze medalists receive 35 and 25 million VND, respectively. Local governments also offer their own rewards, which can reach hundreds of millions of VND.
