The Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training, announced the results of the Vietnamese team at IBO 2026 on the morning of 19/7.
All four participating students secured silver medals: Than Duc Chinh (Bac Giang High School for the Gifted), Nguyen Thanh An (High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Nguyen Luong Thai Duy (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted), and Phung Quang Hung (Bac Giang High School for the Gifted). All are 12th-grade students.
According to the Ministry, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 8th based on total points. Last year, the team placed 10th, earning one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.

IBO 2026 took place in Vilnius, the capital of the Republic of Lithuania, from 12/7 to 19/7. Nearly 300 students from 86 countries and territories underwent two theoretical exams (three hours each) and practical exams in four laboratories (1.5 hours each).
The theoretical component featured 100 questions, addressing topics such as environmental pollution, green growth, carbon neutrality, climate change mitigation, community disease prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment solutions for certain intractable diseases.
The four practical laboratories included:
1. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, requiring the ability to analyze gene and protein applications in biotechnology and medicine (1);
2. Human and Animal Physiology, focusing on pharmacology, hematopathology, and simulated nephrology experiments (2);
3. Animal Anatomy and Systematics, involving microsurgery skills, classification, identification, research into the evolution of pathogenic insects, and climate change prediction (3);
4. Plant Computational Biology, utilizing computational tools and computers for crop and agricultural analysis (4).
