Skarlent Rodriguez, Miss Grand Orlando 2025, and her boyfriend, Jose Castro, have died after a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Venezuela on the evening of 24/6. Their bodies were discovered by rescue teams five days later, on 29/6, trapped beneath the rubble of their apartment building in Catia La Mar, La Guaira state. The region was among the hardest hit by the tremors, which also included a second 7.5 magnitude quake minutes later, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 km.

According to Hola, the earthquake, the strongest to hit Venezuela since 1900, devastated many areas, especially La Guaira. It caused numerous apartment buildings, hotels, and other structures to collapse, displacing thousands of families. Officials stated they continue efforts to search, rescue victims, and address the aftermath.
The family of Skarlent Rodriguez announced the tragic news via a crowdfunding platform, seeking support for funeral and burial expenses. The Rodriguez and Castro families face significant financial challenges due to the prolonged search for their loved ones. The fundraising campaign has a goal of 20,000 USD (approximately VND525 million) and has already raised over 15,000 USD.
Born in Venezuela, Skarlent Rodriguez gained recognition after winning the Miss Grand Orlando title in 2025, a city-level beauty pageant in Florida, US. Although she did not secure the Miss Grand Florida title, Rodriguez became a familiar face in the beauty community, known for her dedication to modeling and public engagements.

Organizations within the Miss Grand system, including Miss Grand Florida and Miss Grand International, posted condolences for Skarlent Rodriguez on Instagram. They described her as "the embodiment of elegance, compassion, strength, and grace". A post from the Miss Grand Florida organization stated, "As a former Miss Grand Orlando, she represented the confidence, compassion, and self-possession our organization proudly upholds.
