According to Joongang, a representative for Ahn Sung Ki's management agency stated that the actor choked on food at his home on 30/12 and collapsed. His current condition is "not optimistic", and he is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
The actor's health has been declining for the past five years. In 2022, he revealed he was battling blood cancer, halting his work to undergo chemotherapy. There was a period when his condition improved, allowing him to attend events, where he wore a wig. His manager noted that Ahn Sung Ki is determined to recover and hopes to reconnect with audiences through new projects.

Born in Seoul in 1952, Ahn Sung Ki graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. At the age of 8, he appeared in director Kim Ki Young's film "The Housemaid" (1960). Over a career spanning more than 60 years, the actor has starred in over 130 productions, encompassing both television and cinema. He is familiar to many Asian audiences through films such as "Stairway to Heaven", "Two Cops", "A Cruel Game", "Radio Star", and "Hansan: Rising Dragon".
The actor has received numerous accolades at award ceremonies, including the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards. He was also honored with the Cultural Merit Medal by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea. Ahn Sung Ki previously served as both Vice President and President of the Korean Film Actors Association, earning him the moniker "national actor" from media and audiences. He married sculptor Oh So Yeong in 1985 and they have two sons.
