According to St Headline, on the evening of 5/4, Ly Dao Du's family and close friends announced his passing on 3/4. Actor Ngo Chi Hung stated that Ly Dao Du had been drinking and suffered a severe fall, leading to critical brain injuries. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency brain surgery but did not recover.

Born in Hong Kong in 1968, Ly Dao Du graduated from TVB's acting training class of 1976. In the late 1970s, he appeared in numerous TVB series, primarily in minor roles with limited dialogue. These included "Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber 1978", "Xiao Fu The", and "The Bund".
Beginning in 1980, the actor expanded his career into cinema. Due to his rugged appearance, Ly Dao Du was often cast as a gangster. In 1996, his portrayal of Tran Dieu in "Young and Dangerous" earned him critical acclaim and audience recognition. He co-starred in the film with Trinh Y Kien, Tran Tieu Xuan, Le Tu, and Nham Dat Hoa.

Following the success of the first film, Ly Dao Du went on to appear in 6 subsequent installments of the "Young and Dangerous" series. This film franchise gained significant popularity across Asia throughout the 1990s and 2000s, establishing itself as one of Hong Kong cinema's most notable gangster films.
Ly Dao Du's filmography also includes other works such as "The Grand Hotel", "A Hero Never Dies", "Conman in Tokyo", and "My Wife is the Gambling King".
In the 2000s, the actor gradually stepped away from the screen to pursue business ventures. In 2023, Ly Dao Du made a guest appearance in the TVB drama "A Fistful of Stances", which marked his final acting role.
