John Barbour established his namesake brand in South Shields, England, in 1894. Initially, the company provided jackets to sailors, fishermen, and outdoor workers. Its waterproof waxed fabric, recognized for its lightness and flexibility, quickly became a staple for generations of Britons.
Over 132 years, Barbour evolved from a practical garment for rural and estate life into a luxury icon. A key part of its journey is "Wax for Life," an initiative reflecting the brand's philosophy of longevity. This service offers re-waxing, restoration, and personalization, extending the lifespan of each design and allowing it to accompany its owner for many more years.
Amidst the evolving landscape of contemporary fashion, Barbour maintains its unique identity, preserving the core values that established its reputation. The brand has also earned a Royal Warrant from the British Royal Family.
