In the ongoing lawsuit concerning their shared estate, Brad Pitt sought to compel Angelina Jolie to disclose private messages exchanged with parties involved in the sale of her shares. However, according to People on 5/5, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled in favor of Angelina Jolie, allowing the actress not to hand over 22 emails and messages related to the Chateau Miraval vineyard dispute. Pitt's legal team was denied because they failed to demonstrate that Jolie's communications were necessary for public disclosure. Previously, Jolie's team opposed Pitt's request, asserting that the exchanged messages were protected under attorney-client privilege.
The judge noted that "further investigation could yield additional evidence" that might refute Angelina Jolie's argument, but Brad Pitt's current documentation does not support this. Concurrently, the court rejected Jolie's request for her ex-husband to pay nearly 34,000 USD in damages, deeming the amount "unjustified" as Pitt's position also had merit.

Paul Murphy, Angelina Jolie's lawyer, described the court's recent decision regarding the messages as a significant victory for his client. According to Murphy, Brad Pitt "completely overstepped by seeking access to clearly protected documents." He characterized this action as part of Pitt's pattern of controlling aspects of Jolie's life, including her communications with her legal team.
Meanwhile, a source close to Brad Pitt told People that the judge would permit the actor to renew his request if new evidence emerges. "It's notable that Jolie has retained many relevant documents under confidentiality. Some of these are critical evidence for the lawsuit," the source stated.
Previously, in 10/2025, Pitt pressured his ex-wife, emphasizing that he only wanted Jolie to provide emails between her and her non-legal advisors. Brad Pitt continued to submit documents, including an email from Jolie's lawyer to him in 2023. In that correspondence, they accused Pitt of demanding 35 million USD from Jolie for damages to the estate, asserting that he should bear the cost of providing information to prove these losses.

The legal battle over the vineyard commenced in 2022. Brad Pitt filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife for secretly selling her 50% stake to a wine company affiliated with the Russian Stoli Group. He claims Angelina Jolie violated an agreement stipulating that either party wishing to sell needed the other's consent. Jolie, in turn, countersued, accusing him of "waging a revenge war" after she filed for divorce in 2016. Jolie's lawyers maintain that Pitt refused to buy back her shares because she declined to sign a nondisclosure agreement to keep his marital misconduct confidential.
The couple finalized their divorce in late 2024 after eight years of litigation, but several issues remain unresolved. In 7/2024, Angelina Jolie's lawyer indicated that the actress requested Brad Pitt cease legal action for the sake of their family. Prior to the property lawsuit, Jolie had accused Pitt of domestic violence. In early 2021, her representatives submitted court documents, stating she was prepared to provide evidence of abuse. Jolie also filed documents alleging Pitt assaulted her on a private plane in 2016 – the alleged cause of the divorce. Following investigations by the FBI and Child and Family Services, Pitt was not charged with any crimes.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie publicly began dating after the film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005) and married in 2014. They share three adopted children and three biological children. After their divorce, both sought custody, but Brad Pitt was unsuccessful. To date, most of their children have publicly or indirectly dropped their father's surname, with the exception of their youngest son, Knox, 18, who has not yet expressed a stance on his parents' conflict.
