Cam Ly, Hoa Minzy perform 'Nguoi Viet Minh Thuong Nhau' at concert

Singers Cam Ly and Hoa Minzy performed the song "Nguoi Viet Minh Thuong Nhau" at the "Am Vang To Quoc" program on the evening of 28/4.

The performance was part of chapter three, "Khat Vong Viet Nam" (Vietnamese Aspiration), at the concert held at My Dinh Stadium. The two artists, dressed in white ao dai and traditional checkered scarves, performed with a dance group.

The song is gaining attention following discussions about the lyric "lua chin cao nhung chang he cui dau" (ripe rice stands tall but never bows). Composed by Chau Dang Khoa and released on 24/4, the piece draws inspiration from traditional music, blending Northern `a dao` (a traditional Vietnamese singing genre) and Southern folk songs. The original lyrics drew from the idiom "Song sau tinh lang, lua chin cui dau" (deep rivers run silently, ripe rice bows its head), which implies talented and experienced individuals remain humble. However, composer Chau Dang Khoa reinterpreted the idiom to express a spirit of resilience against adversity.

Many opinions suggested that the altered lyric lost its original humble meaning, instead conveying arrogance. On the afternoon of 28/4, Chau Dang Khoa announced that the controversial lyric would be changed to "dau bao giong kien cuong luon vung vang" (even amidst storms, resiliently standing firm) and thanked the audience for their feedback. At the concert, the two singers performed the revised lyrics.

The Central Propaganda and Mobilization Department directed the "Am Vang To Quoc" concert, with Vietnam Television, the People's Committee of Hanoi City, and related units coordinating its execution. The program gathered over 2,000 artists and performers, along with over 1,000 officials and soldiers from the people's armed forces. According to general director Nguyen Trung Dung, the concert's highlight was the fusion of a symphony orchestra with rock music, incorporating 3D mapping and live-action elements onto the stage.

Cam Ly, 56 years old, gained attention singing with Dan Truong on the album "Neu Phoi Pha Ngay Mai". She rose to prominence with Nguyen Nhat Huy's songs such as "Nguoi Ve Cuoi Pho", "Bo Ben La", and "Thuong Nho Nguoi Dung". She was the first singer to perform free live shows for students in 2003 and 2004. The singer recorded many folk and romantic music albums and achieved success with her "Tu Tinh Que Huong" live show series. In 2024, she held a live show to celebrate 30 years in music at Hoa Binh Theater, TP HCM.

Hoa Minzy, 31 years old, whose real name is Nguyen Thi Hoa, is from Bac Ninh. She won the "Hoc Vien Ngoi Sao" (Star Academy) program in 2014. Her popular songs include "Roi Bo" (Vu Huy Hoang), "Khong The Cung Nhau Suot Kiep" (Mr Siro), and "Bat Tinh Yeu Len" (Tang Duy Tan). In early 2024, Hoa Minzy received her first "Favorite Female Singer" award at the Mai Vang Awards. The same year, she was honored as "Female Singer of the Year" at the Cong Hien Awards. In early 2025, the singer released the music video "Bac Bling", creating a major hit in her career.
