Chi Pu releases music video on overcoming past hurts and finding peace

Singer Chi Pu shares her journey of overcoming doubt, hurt, and public pressure to find inner peace through her new music video, "Mirror".

The release marks Chi Pu's return to the music scene after two years focusing on establishing her own entertainment company. The track is part of her debut album, set for release in June.

An excerpt from Chi Pu's new music video, released on 6/6.

According to the artist, "Mirror" reflects her inner world and growth at age 33. "Having experienced ups and downs in my career and personal life, I learned to understand myself. I realized that only by accepting hurt as inevitable and overcoming it can I achieve peace," she stated.

Chi Pu revealed that throughout her 17 years in the entertainment industry, she has faced a spectrum of emotions. From moments of triumph to feeling like she was falling into an abyss due to criticism of her abilities, she never gave up. Instead, she continuously learned to improve her weaknesses. "I view past joys and difficulties as building blocks that have shaped my current self – stronger and more resilient," the singer shared.

Chi Pu incorporates meditation imagery into her music video to express her inner world.

Drawing on meditation imagery, Chi Pu transforms into a character entering a world of silence and awakening. Letting go of her surroundings, she confronts memories filled with various emotions like happiness and loss. Upon opening her eyes and returning to reality, everything appears soothed and revitalized.

The song's lyrics trace Chi Pu's journey of self-discovery. The line, "Mirror mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?" acts as the protagonist's self-questioning. As the character sheds doubt, confidence gradually emerges, echoed in lyrics such as, "What beautiful words are worthy of me? This beauty is exclusive," and "Every curve like a flower."

Chi Pu collaborated with musician Vu Phung Tien and producer 2Pillz to create the music, a blend of dance-pop and EDM. The entire music video was filmed by her team in China.

Chi Pu discusses the inspiration behind her debut album.

Born Nguyen Thuy Chi in Ha Noi, she launched her singing career in 2017. She has since released 20 singles, including notable tracks such as "Tu Hom Nay", "Em Sai Roi Anh Xin Loi Em Di", "Moi Anh Vao Tim Em", "Cung Dan Vo Doi", and "Mo Anh". In 2023, she won the Chinese reality competition show "Chi Dep Dap Gio Re Song" and subsequently released "Finding You", her debut Chinese music project.

As an actress, Chi Pu has appeared in "5S Online", "Than Tuong", "Yeu", "Ve Si Sai Gon", "Moi Tinh Dau Cua Toi", "Chi Chi Em Em", "Muoi: Loi Nguyen Tro Lai", and "Nguoi Mat Troi". She received the Most Loved Actress award at the Ngoi Sao Xanh Awards.
