Director Ham Tran makes film about female special forces agent

Director Ham Tran is making the feature film “Saigon female special forces agent”, set in the 1970s, scheduled for release on 30/4/2027.

The film delves into the challenging period of the anti-American resistance war, featuring numerous action sequences and intellectual battles. At its core, the story explores family bonds amidst adversity. Central characters Giang and Gam are two sisters separated by the war. Upon reuniting, they discover they are now on opposing sides of the conflict. In life-or-death situations, they face profound internal struggles, torn between their missions and their blood ties.

“Saigon female special forces agent” marks director Ham Tran's next action project, following the success of his hijacking-themed film, "Tu chien tren khong". That feature film grossed 251 billion VND, becoming one of last year's box office highlights.

Beyond the two main characters, the production team revealed other figures: Luan, the Ben Tre Provincial Police Chief, and Nhung and Nam, members of the special forces unit. Luan is a notorious playboy, using his charming appearance and authority to win over beautiful women as a way to assert himself. Nhung is a master of diversionary tactics, skilled at transforming the most unfavorable situations into opportunities for attack. Nam appears handsome and youthful but possesses a mature and calm demeanor. He can set aside personal emotions to complete missions, earning the trust of his commanders.

The theme of special forces soldiers is rarely explored on the big screen. Previously, in 1986, Vietnam Feature Film Studio successfully released "Biet dong Sai Gon", which depicted the unit's achievements during the anti-American resistance war. The four-episode film featured Tu Chung, the Saigon Special Forces Commander, and his comrade Ngoc Mai as main characters. They posed as a wealthy couple, daily confronting the enemy. Their other comrades, such as Sau Tam, Huyen Trang, and Nam Hoa (alias "K9"), held various positions, collectively completing their missions. The film was recognized among the top 50 notable works of TP HCM.

Ham Tran, 51, whose full name is Tran Quang Ham, moved to the US as a child. He later studied directing, film production, and screenwriting. He began his career as a film editor for works such as "Bay rong", "De Mai tinh", "Khat vong Thang Long", and "Long Ruoi". He gradually became known for both horror-thriller and romance genres, with films like "Doat hon", "Sieu trom", "Ban gai toi la sep", and "Am muu giay got nhon". Early last year, the series "Tiem an cua quy", which he directed, gained significant attention upon its release on Netflix.
