Hyun Bin thanks wife after winning baeksang 2026 best actor award

Hyun Bin garnered attention for thanking his wife, Son Ye Jin, and their son after winning best television actor at the baeksang 2026 awards.

On the evening of 8/5, at the Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony held in Seoul, Hyun Bin won the best television actor award for his role in Disney+'s "Made in Korea". He triumphed over Ji Sung, Lee Junho, Park Jinyoung, and Ryu Seung Ryong. As the actor stepped onto the stage, Son Ye Jin, seated in the audience, recorded her husband with her phone.

In his acceptance speech, Hyun Bin expressed gratitude to his family, stating, "I want to thank my beloved wife sitting in front of me, Ye Jin. I am truly grateful and love you. Dad also loves our son. Thank you family for always being there, encouraging and supporting me throughout the filming of the movie."

Beyond his family, Hyun Bin also acknowledged director Woo Min Ho and the crew, sharing that the production of "Made in Korea" involved significant pressure but also yielded good memories. "Each time I portrayed this character, it brought me many emotions. Thank you, director Woo Min Ho, for giving me such a wonderful role," he said.

On social media platforms, many viewers expressed their admiration for the moment Hyun Bin mentioned his wife during his win. A Threads user commented that the actor's career and personal life have flourished since his marriage. Other comments included: "He's handsome, acts well, is kind, and loves his wife and child," and "The way he mentioned Son Ye Jin on stage made the win more meaningful."

"Made in Korea" is set in 1970s Korea, a period marked by significant societal shifts under the influence of political power and an underground economy. The narrative centers on an intellectual battle between Baek Ki Tae (Hyun Bin) and prosecutor Jang Geon Young (Jung Woo Sung).

Baek Ki Tae is a high-ranking official within the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA). He presents a sophisticated exterior, yet harbors a deep ambition to control power and manipulate the economic and political landscape during a chaotic era. The character rarely displays direct emotion but consistently projects a sense of danger.

In interviews prior to the film's release, Hyun Bin revealed that Ki Tae was one of the most challenging and ambitious roles of his career. To fully immerse himself in the character, the actor gained over 13 kg, marking his most significant weight change to date. According to SBS Star, this physical transformation aimed to convey the authority and dominance inherent in a figure at the apex of a power system. Following its release, the film garnered positive feedback, with a second part anticipated later this year.

Hyun Bin, 44 years old, whose real name is Kim Tae Pyung, debuted in 2003. He is known for several television dramas including "My Name Is Kim Sam-soon," "Snow Queen," "The World That They Live In" (co-starring Song Hye Kyo), "Secret Garden," and "Crash Landing on You." In film, he has participated in many hit projects such as "A Millionaire's First Love," "Late Autumn" (with Tang Wei), "Confidential Assignment," "The Negotiation" (with Son Ye Jin), and "Rampant."

According to SBS Star, after marrying Son Ye Jin in 2022 and becoming a father, Hyun Bin has stated that family is now his priority, influencing his script choices and career direction. In April, the couple celebrated four years of marriage. Actress Son Ye Jin caused a stir by posting a photo of herself holding her husband's hand from their 2022 wedding.

The Baeksang Arts Awards is one of the three oldest and most prestigious film awards in Korea, alongside the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Grand Bell Awards. Established in 1965, the program honors achievements across television, film, and theater. The 62nd event was hosted by Shin Dong Yup, Park Bo Gum, and Bae Suzy.

This year's awards spanned four fields: film, television, stage, and musical, with the musical category being a new addition. Over 60 works competed for nominations in categories such as lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, director, and screenwriter.

"You and Everything Else" won the best television drama award, while actor Ryu Seung Ryong received the Daesang (Grand Prize) for "Manager Kim." In the film category, director Park Chan Wook's "No Other Choice" was honored as best film, and Yoo Hae Jin received the Daesang for his role in "Under the Emperor's Shadow."
