Immersive show reenacts king Dinh Tien Hoang's heaven and earth offering ceremony

The story of Dinh Bo Linh establishing an altar to offer to heaven and earth, proclaiming the birth of the Dai Co Viet nation to the world, is reenacted through an immersive show.

The "Huyen Thien Co Dan" art program took place on 26/4 at the Thung Ui Cultural Area in Ninh Binh. This performance draws inspiration from the historic event where Dinh Bo Linh established the Thien Te Altar west of Hoa Lu capital. During this ceremony, he offered sacrifices to heaven and earth, proclaiming the birth of a new nation. He declared himself Dai Thang Minh Emperor, named the country Dai Co Viet, adopted the era name Thai Binh, and became the first emperor of Vietnam's centralized feudal state.

Over 90 minutes, more than 2,500 artists, actors, and performers transported the audience back to the origins of national history. The program unfolded seamlessly through four chapters: Van Co Anh Linh, Dai Co Viet Khai Quoc, Huyen Thien Co Dan, and Hoi Yen Hoa Tien.

The "Dawn Warrior" imagery, reconstructed from prehistoric human remains found at Thung Ui, evokes the first inhabitants who chose this area as their home. Tens of thousands of years later, on this same land, King Dinh Bo Linh established the Dai Co Viet nation.

Attendees experienced two distinct stages at the event. The first stage recreated a prehistoric space within the mountain and depicted a drill by the ancient Hoa Lu army. The second stage immersed viewers in ceremonial rituals, including a dragon palanquin procession and the heaven offering ceremony.

General Director Le Hai Yen stated that the stage design allowed viewers to immerse themselves in the setting and participate in the context, rather than merely observing. "By enabling the audience to move and interact directly, we naturally connect heritage with contemporary public emotions," she explained.

The audience enjoyed performances featuring dances by court ladies and celestial maidens.

The performance space, viewed from above, captivated audiences. According to organizers, spectators queued for hours before the show and lingered afterward to interact with the crew and artists.
