Lan Thy 'Em va Trinh': The 28-year-old's beauty and journey

Lan Thy, who rose to fame as Diem Xua in 'Em va Trinh,' has become a muse for many directors after five years in showbiz.

The actress returns to the big screen in the film 'Mai No Mot Loi Tam Biet,' directed by J. Robert Schulz and produced by Vietnamese-American Daniel K. Winn. It premiered domestically in mid-September. In the 1970s-set film, Lan Thy plays Hoa, the stepmother of the main character (played by child actress Uy Nhan).

Her distinct East Asian appearance was a factor in her selection during casting. Lan Thy mentioned that despite the character not having extensive screen time, she felt fortunate to act alongside veteran artist Kieu Chinh (who plays the grandmother) and learn from her work ethic.

Previously, she garnered attention for her appearance in the music video 'Muc Ha Vo Nhan' by singer Soobin (right) and rapper Binz. Lan Thy portrayed a beautiful woman targeted by two young men posing as fortune tellers. The song, inspired by a famous xam folk song of the same name, has attracted over 10 million views on YouTube. The music video was praised for its visuals, featuring scenes reminiscent of Dong Ho folk paintings.

This role served as a launching pad, providing her with opportunities to participate in films such as 'Cong Tu Bac Lieu,' 'Am Duong Lo,' and the horror series 'Tiem An Cua Quy' by director Ham Tran. Hoang Tuan Cuong, director of the 2025 film 'Am Duong Lo,' stated that he chose her for the lead role due to her diverse expressions, considering Lan Thy a promising face among Gen Z actors.

Pham Nguyen Lan Thy, who initially studied medicine, began her acting career in 2021. In Phan Gia Nhat Linh's 'Em va Trinh,' she played Ngo Vu Bich Diem, known as "Diem Xua," one of musician Trinh Cong Son's profound loves and the inspiration for his classic song. The actress captivated audiences by portraying the character with elegant beauty, a slender figure, and a gentle voice.

Standing 1,6 m tall, the actress receives compliments for her balanced physique, attributed to her suitable outfit choices that emphasize a healthy look, such as tank tops paired with wide-leg pants.

She embraces a sensual style with a one-piece swimsuit, accessorized with a shell-embellished necklace.

When not filming, she prefers outfits in neutral tones like white, gray, and brown. The actress rarely styles elaborate accessories and often opts for light makeup, highlighting her facial features.

The actress wore a polka-dot dress alongside her husband, conductor Dustin Tieu, on the red carpet in April in TP HCM. The couple married in late July, after two years of a private relationship.

Lan Thy shared that her husband supports her in both life and work. As they both work in the arts, they understand and respect each other's decisions. Her husband often encourages her to experience new roles and film genres she has not yet explored.
