When Liu Yifei was 10 years old, Liu Xiaoli and her husband divorced. She gave up her career to take her daughter to the US for studies. Five years later, the mother and daughter returned to China, where Liu Xiaoli took on the role of manager, accompanying her daughter to film sets. She also taught her daughter dance to help with her roles.

In a video posted on her personal page in September, film producer Chen Lan stated that she had followed Liu Yifei's career development and believed Liu Xiaoli's role was indispensable to her success. The mother instilled in her daughter a sense of understanding and empathy for the difficulties of others. In their work, both mother and daughter were always punctual and respectful of the crew. Later, even after becoming a top star, Liu Yifei never kept others waiting.

Chen Lan revealed that Liu Xiaoli adhered to the philosophy of "raising her daughter with wealth", meaning that from a young age, she focused on cultivating her daughter's character and knowledge. This was to ensure that as an adult, her daughter would not be overwhelmed or tempted by vanity and superficial glamour, and would not lose herself to such things.
Beyond financial investment, Liu Xiaoli dedicated much of her time to being her daughter's companion, supporting her during the nascent stages of her career. The producer admired the single mother for raising such an outstanding daughter. Liu Yifei keeps her private life guarded; since her breakup with Korean actor Song Seung Heon in 2018, she has not publicly disclosed any romantic relationships nor has she been involved in dating rumors.
