10 rare dresses on the 2025 red carpet

A 1950s design by Givenchy is among the rare dresses featured at major events this year.

Also at this event, Mikey Madison wore a dark blue velvet dress from American designer Bill Blass's 1987 autumn/winter collection.

Since the early 2020s, stars have increasingly turned to vintage fashion for the red carpet. According to Vogue, rare dresses by Thierry Mugler, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent are highly sought after by collectors.

At the VMAs, Bob Mackie lent singer Sabrina Carpenter a sequined and beaded fringe mini-dress. The design, from the 1986 spring/summer collection, appeared remarkably fresh and vibrant and is considered one of the 25 rarest dresses in the world to appear this year.

At the post-Oscar party, supermodel Kendall Jenner wore a sheer lace Thierry Mugler gown. The design, from the 1992 spring/summer collection, looked almost brand new despite being over 30 years old.

At the Oscar nominees' luncheon, Ariana Grande made an impression in a 1991 Yves Saint Laurent gown previously worn by Catherine Deneuve. Pink feathers added both discretion and prominence to the wearer.

At the same event, a cream slip dress paired with a sheer robe and a floral necklace placed Kaia Gerber among the best-dressed stars. The ensemble is from Valentino's 1997 spring/summer collection.

Hailey Bieber also embraced the vintage trend with a 1987 Yves Saint Laurent gown.

Vogue noted that the cream gown Rooney Mara wore at this year's Cannes Film Festival appeared elegant and simple, yet captivating. The Givenchy garment is a Haute Couture piece, originating from the 1950s.

On the Cannes red carpet, supermodel Irina Shayk impressed with a 1998 Yves Saint Laurent drop-waist, high-low gown.

Attending the Fashion Trust Arabia Awards 2025, supermodel Natalia Vodianova chose a uniquely structured Christian Lacroix design. The bronze design, from the 1996 spring/summer collection, was crafted from metallic silk, creating the effect of a distorted metal block.
