Louis Koo, "Yang Guo" Actor, Experiences Memory Decline

Hong Kong actor Louis Koo reveals he sometimes forgets which films he has acted in, experiencing mild memory decline.

The 56-year-old actor spoke openly about his health in a talk show with actress Carol Cheng on 9/2. He acknowledged rumors circulating within the film industry that "Louis Koo has lost his memory". The actor disclosed that his current condition is mild; for instance, he often cannot recall who the person in front of him is, despite feeling a strong sense of familiarity.

His current memory issues do not significantly impact his work. When filming, he can memorize lines, blocking details, and action sequences. However, after production wraps, these details fade very quickly; one or two years later, he does not even remember participating in that project.

The actor once worried his memory decline was linked to a childhood brain hematoma, but doctors determined this was not the cause. As a child, Louis Koo occasionally experienced temporary vision loss, each episode lasting over 10 seconds. On some days, this occurred 5 times, causing his parents concern.

At that time, doctors diagnosed Louis Koo with a brain hematoma, potentially due to two causes: an earlier injury or complications during birth. Doctors advised the family not to worry excessively, explaining that as his brain developed, the blood clot would no longer compress the nerves. Despite this, Louis Koo needed to take medication, and his current condition does not pose a danger to him.

Louis Koo has been active in entertainment for over 30 years, known for many TVB works such as "Detective Investigation Files IV", "At the Threshold of an Era", "A Step into the Past", and "The Condor Heroes 1995" (as Yang Guo, alongside Carmen Lee). In the 2000s, he focused on film roles. According to Sina, Koo has been dubbed the new "Godfather" of Hong Kong cinema, self-funding and seeking investment for projects like "Warriors of Future", "A Step into the Past" (film version), and "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In", thereby creating job opportunities for film production staff.

The actor is private about his personal life, only confirming a relationship with actress Shirley Wong. After their breakup in 2002, Louis Koo has not publicly dated anyone. On HK01, he stated his family does not pressure him to marry or have children. Previously, the actor wanted to be a father, but the pandemic changed many of his perspectives. Currently, Louis Koo feels he still has many tasks to complete and insufficient time to raise a child. Koo stated he will only become a father when he has enough time to be present for every step of his child's growth.
