On 1/4, CCTV (China) aired a report exposing the manufacturing process of a health supplement advertised as imported. However, investigations by the broadcaster revealed the factory's address was a car maintenance and repair shop. The product was manufactured in China, not "imported" as the company stated.
The health supplement company was also accused of paying scholars to falsely advertise the product's origin and purchasing "international awards" to boost its credibility.
This health supplement was popular in China, leading sales on platforms such as: Douyin, Tmall. The product has since been removed from online sales platforms, and authorities are investigating the distributing company over allegations of false advertising.
