Macaulay Culkin has indicated he is considering reprising his role as Kevin McCallister in a sequel to "Home Alone". This statement came during an event on 22/11, celebrating the series' 35th anniversary. However, he emphasized that he would only participate if the script was of high quality and logical. "I'm not opposed to it, as long as it's done right," Culkin stated.
The actor revealed his vision for a potential storyline: an adult Kevin, either a widower or divorced, raising a child alone. Due to his busy life, he neglects his son's care, leading to the child's resentment. During a holiday, Kevin finds himself locked out of his own home. Instead of opening the door, his son plans a series of pranks against him. "The boy himself is the one setting the traps for me," Culkin explained. "The roles would be reversed; Kevin would have to find a way to deal with his son instead of fighting off thieves like Harry (Joe Pesci) or Marv (Daniel Stern)."
Culkin elaborated that the house would serve as a metaphor for the father-son relationship. Kevin's journey to overcome obstacles and persuade his son to let him inside would reflect a father's effort to reconnect, helping his child open up again after a period of estrangement caused by misunderstandings.

The director of the original series, Chris Columbus, recently shared his thoughts on a sequel in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. He expressed skepticism about creating new installments. "The 'Home Alone' film doesn't just exist as a product; it's a special moment that cannot be replicated," Columbus stated. "I think it would be a mistake to try and recreate what we did 35 years ago. Everything should remain as it is."
Neither Culkin nor Columbus were involved in "Home Alone 3", a film produced in 1997 that was largely forgotten by the public. The 4th installment aired directly on television in 2002. In 2021, Disney attempted to refresh the brand with the movie "Home Sweet Home Alone", streaming exclusively on Disney+ and starring Archie Yates, the actor known from "Jojo Rabbit". However, according to Variety, the less-than-positive audience reaction to these remakes somewhat affirmed director Chris Columbus's viewpoint.
