Matthew McConaughey and his "Interstellar" co-star Timothee Chalamet recently attended a panel discussion organized by Variety and CNN at the University of Texas, US. The two actors shared their perspectives on working in Hollywood amid the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), offering students advice on leveraging AI. The conversation is scheduled to air on 21/2.
In a promotional video released on 19/2, Matthew McConaughey drew attention when he told Timothee Chalamet that AI could replace human actors and affect awards such as the Oscars. The actor predicted that new categories, including best AI film and outstanding AI actor, could emerge in the coming years. According to him, future AI will become so advanced that audiences will be unable to distinguish between machine-generated and human-produced works, with AI integrated in ways no one recognizes.

"Now, one of the biggest questions being asked is: what is reality?" he added. "I think reality is more ambiguous than ever, in a way that is both exciting and frightening. Prepare for this scenario. Own your path so that you at least retain control when AI begins to intrude."
Despite this, Matthew McConaughey believes that humans should not reject AI. Instead, he suggests transforming it into a tool for competitive advantage. He argues that sitting out the AI wave and offering moral objections that "AI is wrong" is not enough to stop its progression, especially as the technology is highly profitable and productive.
"I have to say: Own yourself," he added. "From your voice to your image and many other things. Copyright everything. Do everything necessary so that when AI arrives, no one can steal you."
According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor's advice stems from personal experience. In 11/2025, Matthew McConaughey signed an agreement with AI company ElevenLabs, authorizing the use of artificial intelligence to create voice models of him in various languages. In 1/, McConaughey copyrighted his famous catchphrase "Alright, alright, alright" from his character in the 1993 film "Dazed and Confused".

Matthew McConaughey's views come at a time when AI is gradually entering the entertainment industry, sparking much debate. Initially, many artists and filmmakers opposed the use of AI in creative processes, fearing harm to artists' rights and copyright. However, Hollywood's perception of artificial intelligence has recently shifted, with many studios and producers now viewing this technology as a supportive tool, necessitating learning to coexist with AI.
Matthew McConaughey, 57 years old, is one of Hollywood's leading actors. He is known for roles such as NASA pilot Joseph Cooper in "Interstellar" (2014) and Wooderson in "Dazed and Confused" (1993). He was also a familiar leading man in romantic comedies like "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" (2003) and "Failure to Launch" (2006). His career took a significant turn when he won an Oscar for the film "Dallas Buyers Club" (2013). In 3/2025, he is set to return to film with "The Rivals of Amziah King," after 6 years without a project.
