On 21/2, Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka captured everyone's attention with her distinctive outfit at the Australian Open. She wore a blue dress paired with pleated wide-leg pants, holding an umbrella. Her hat, featuring a large butterfly, recalled her 2021 championship photo at Melbourne Park.
Osaka has frequently made fashion statements on court. She told CNN, "When I played today, I just told myself to focus on the goal. If my opponent wins, that's unfortunate. But at least I'll be widely discussed on social media."
Earlier, Osaka sported a ruffled sports jacket inspired by jellyfish, her daughter's favorite animal. Both outfits were custom-designed by Robert Wun in collaboration with Nike. The designs featured thin fabric layers that created movement with each step. The ruffles mimicked tentacles, while the tie-dye colors on the jacket and dress showcased the beauty of jellyfish.

Osaka's fashion choices draw inspiration from tennis icons Venus and Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova. In 2024, she wore a tiered dress with a giant bow during her match against Jelena Ostapenko at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Naomi Osaka, 27, is a prominent figure in Japanese sports, symbolizing aspiration and global integration. Her father moved her to Florida, US, to learn tennis when she was eight years old. Osaka, whose mother is Japanese and father is Haitian, is among the best female tennis players. She is also the first Asian player to rank world number one, winning four Grand Slam titles.
At the 2026 Australian Open, Osaka will face Sorana Cirstea in the next round.
