Piaget unveils two gold-engraved, gemstone-set Limelight Gala party watches

Piaget's two Limelight Gala watch models draw attention with gold engraved motifs, gradient gemstone bands, and a distinct jewelry-like design.

This spring, Piaget introduced two new Limelight Gala watch models. The first watch features a grand feu enamel dial—a technique of firing enamel multiple times at high temperatures for deep, lasting color. Its design showcases a burnt orange hue on a gold background, intricately engraved to mimic snakeskin. The round case bezel is adorned with diamonds, curving alongside spessartite garnets (a rare garnet variety with a sunset orange-red color), complemented by a gold bracelet engraved with a snake-scale motif.

Piaget introduced the highly specialized snake-scale engraving technique in 2019 on the Extremely Lady watch, a craft demanding masterful skill from artisans.

In Piaget's Limelight Gala design, the lugs become a prominent decorative element with two curving bands of gemstones flowing along the case and gold bracelet. These two bands evoke the numbers 6 and 9, symbolizing the watch's versatility to accompany women from morning to night in various settings.

Across both Piaget watch models, the gradient arrangement of gemstones—spessartite garnets on the first and white diamonds on the second (pictured)—results from a meticulous crafting process. This stage demands time, patience, and skill in selecting and categorizing stones by their subtle shades.

Designed by Jean-Claude Gueit, the Limelight Gala was among the women's watch models launched at a 1973 event at Gstaad Palace, Switzerland. After nearly a decade establishing Piaget's position in jewelry watches, the Limelight Gala marked a shift from bracelet watches to a more distinct jewelry design, blending classic elegance with sensual lines. The new version, featuring the Decor Palace engraving (Piaget's signature raised gold engraving technique), continues the classic luxury spirit of this watch line.

Piaget crafts the bracelets from hand-assembled gold links, creating a soft feel that conforms to the wrist. The Decor Palace motif, inspired by the guilloche engraving technique, is hand-engraved with a graver on the gold surface. Each bracelet thus bears the unique imprint of the jeweler, from the hand pressure and engraving angle to the rhythm of movement.
