Thai Hoa film reveals charity fraud scheme

Actor Thai Hoa plays a father suspected by his daughter of involvement in a charity fraud ring in the film "Anh Hung".

First look at the film "Anh Hung" - expected to be released during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day. Video: Film crew provided

The film "Anh Hung" features actor Thai Hoa as Hung, a taxi driver and single father of two daughters, who becomes embroiled in a charity fraud scheme. The plot unfolds as Hung, rushing his critically ill youngest daughter to the emergency room, witnesses a traffic accident. He faces a profound moral dilemma: intervene to help the injured or prioritize his daughter's urgent medical needs.

This pivotal moment sets the stage for Hung's descent into illicit money-making, initiated by Tuan (Vo Tan Phat). Subsequently, his eldest daughter, Phuong Thanh, grows suspicious of his involvement in gambling and charity fraud cases, which are reportedly worth billions. The film, a psychological family drama, explores themes of trust and honor when faced with material temptations.

Director Vo Thach Thao examines the impact of the social media era on individual lives. The narrative highlights how any action can be recorded and edited, potentially altering a person's fate. This theme underscores the challenges characters face in navigating public perception and maintaining their integrity.

"Anh Hung" marks Thai Hoa's second collaboration with director Vo Thach Thao, following their work on the TV series "Cay Tao No Hoa" (2021). After appearing in two major projects, "Dia Dao" (directed by Bui Thac Chuyen) and "Tu Chien Tren Khong" (Ham Tran), this new film represents a shift for Thai Hoa towards a more relatable character. His portrayal blends humor with emotion as his character strives to regain his children's affection. He is also slated to return to the small screen in late October 2025 with the long-running series "Cuoc Chien Ha Luu".

Thai Hoa, 52, born in TP HCM, began his acting career in the 1990s. In the 2000s, he achieved success in comedy, notably with the "Gala Cuoi 2003" program. His filmography includes numerous popular titles such as "De Mai Tinh", "Long Rui", and "Cuoi Ngay Keo Lo". In 2020, he starred in director Quang Dung's "Tiec Trang Mau", which was among the top five highest-grossing Vietnamese films at the time, earning 175 billion VND.

In 2023, Thai Hoa received two awards for best leading actor in film ("Con Nhot Mot Chong") and television ("Me Rom") at the Canh Dieu Awards. He also secured the award for best leading actor at the Vietnam Film Festival 2023. Beyond his acting career, Thai Hoa is a screenwriter and the author of two successful projects: "Nguoi Vo Ma" and "Qua Tim Mau".
