For the first time, the color trend research agency has chosen white, reflecting a desire for tranquility and peace—a constant need in today's turbulent world, according to Time.
"Like a blank canvas, Cloud Dancer embodies our yearning for a fresh start," stated Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in an announcement on the morning of 5/12. "By shedding outdated ways of thinking, we open the door to new approaches."
Eiseman elaborated that the world's chaos has become overwhelming, making it difficult to listen to one's inner voice. She added, "As a conscious declaration of simplification, Cloud Dancer helps us focus more, freeing ourselves from the distractions of external influences."

Pantone suggests Cloud Dancer evokes a need for human connection and mutual understanding. White also symbolizes the erasure of the past. Vogue reported that the past year saw stagnation and a lack of vitality in the fashion industry and global culture and entertainment. The 2026 color aims to be a turning point, propelling culture forward.
Many fashion critics from the New York Times and Guardian reacted to Pantone's choice. British fashion and trend forecaster Mandy Lee called it "disappointing." Others commented: "White is truly bland. It's like the color of fresh cheese, dental floss, AirPods," and "I miss 2023's Viva Magenta. A crazy choice, but at least it was an idea. White feels like they ran out of options and just made it a trend."
Over the past three years, Pantone has consistently sought to soothe the world through its color choices. This year, brown was selected for its warmth and harmony. Last year, peach orange was presented as a tone of peace, serenity, and nurturing.
The Pantone Institute is a globally renowned color authority, part of the multinational X-Rite corporation, with over 50 years of providing products, services, and technology in color exploration and creativity. The company dedicates the entire year to analyzing trends in fashion, technology events, and other fields to identify shades shaping society.
