Vo Van Phung, known as Nai and originally from Tay Ninh, and Nguyen Duong Khanh, also called Nac from Vinh Long, established the YouTube channel Du Long Du Canh in early 2024. Their content focuses on showcasing the scenery, culture, daily life, and people of Vietnam's Mien Tay (Southwest) region.
The duo explained that they chose the name "Du Long Du Canh" (With Wings to Fly) to express their ambition to "fly far," explore diverse regions across the country, and share their affection for their homeland through their films. After two years, the channel has produced over 30 videos.
In their videos, Nac takes on the role of storyteller, guiding viewers through their journeys, while Nai contributes by researching traditional crafts, local customs, and real-life stories in the riverine area. Despite calling themselves "amateur" content creators, Phung and Khanh meticulously invest in the settings, visuals, dialogue, and narrative style, resulting in films with a distinct cinematic and storytelling quality.
For example, in a segment about the Dinh Yen mat weaving village in Dong Thap, Phung and Khanh accompanied locals to understand the mat-making process, from sedge grass to the finished product. In an episode covering a Mien Tay death anniversary commemoration (dam gio), they experienced a two-day event. They explored the custom of "an gio lay phan mang ve" (taking home portions of food from the feast), along with the "tien thuong" (initial offering), "chanh gio" (main ceremony), and "hau thuong" (final offering) rituals.
On digital platforms, many overseas Vietnamese viewers have shared that these simple stories from the Mien Tay region offer them deeper insights into their culture and homeland.
