On 26/6, Doctor Le Si Phong from the General Surgery Department of Children's Hospital 2, reported that the girl's cancer marker test results were normal, and surgery was promptly scheduled.
After more than 90 minutes, the surgical team successfully removed the 30x40 cm cyst, weighing nearly 8 kg. The cyst contained a significant amount of mucus and solid tissue. Pathology confirmed it as a mucinous cystadenoma of the ovary. The girl recovered quickly and was discharged after three days of observation.
According to Doctor Phong, this type of ovarian cyst is benign but can grow to a considerable size if not detected and treated promptly. The cyst often presents no noticeable symptoms; children can eat, sleep, and engage in normal activities until the growing mass causes pressure, abdominal distension, or dangerous complications like torsion or rupture.
