On 10/1, the Lao Cai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital announced that a 20-month-old girl, residing in Cam Duong Ward, passed away at 21:05 that day, despite doctors' efforts to resuscitate her. The initial cause of death was identified as circulatory arrest, respiratory arrest, and grade IV anaphylaxis, the most critical level. The patient's family, however, claims the hospital's negligence in administering medication led to the child experiencing drug shock and death, and has called for a thorough investigation.
The severe reaction occurred on the afternoon of 9/1, around 16:15, immediately after the girl received medication. The on-call medical team promptly ceased the drug administration, initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) following established protocols, and conducted an urgent consultation with senior specialists. Despite these efforts, the patient's condition rapidly worsened and did not respond to resuscitation measures.
According to medical records, the girl was admitted on 5/1 with a diagnosis of bronchopneumonia. Over the four days of her hospitalization, she received antibiotics and fever-reducing medication as per standard treatment protocols.
In a statement issued on 10/1, the hospital announced the establishment of a professional council. This council will review the entire process of patient admission, treatment, and care. The hospital affirmed its commitment to transparency and cooperation, promising to release updates once conclusions are reached by the professional council and competent authorities.
