Weakness in the arms and legs
Numbness or weakness in the legs, arms, or face can be a sign of a stroke. This usually occurs on one side of the body and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty speaking or a drooping mouth. Dizziness, loss of balance, difficulty moving, sudden or severe headaches, blurred vision, and slurred speech can also be warning signs of a stroke.
Chest pain
A dull ache or sharp pain in the chest can be a symptom of a heart attack or heart disease. The discomfort usually lasts for more than a few minutes, worsens with activity, disappears, and then returns. In many cases, chest pain is not related to the heart and is often caused by heartburn or other digestive problems. Don't try to endure the pain or wait for it to go away; see a doctor to diagnose the cause.
Pain in the back of the calf
This can be a sign of a blood clot in the leg, which can occur with conditions that affect blood clotting. People who sit or are bedridden for long periods, are pregnant, use birth control pills, smoke, or are overweight are also at risk of developing blood clots in their legs. A blood clot in the leg can easily break loose, travel through the bloodstream, and block blood flow to the lungs (pulmonary embolism), which can be fatal.
Blood in the urine
If you have kidney stones, blood can make your urine pink or red. Small crystals that form in the urine cause pain in the side or back. A doctor may use ultrasound or a CT scan to determine the cause. Some small kidney stones will pass out of the body on their own. Surgery is needed to break up larger stones.
Blood in the urine, frequent urination, or a burning sensation when urinating are also signs of a urinary tract infection. This can lead to kidney damage and other serious problems. Blood in the urine is sometimes a symptom of other diseases, such as bladder or kidney cancer.
Wheezing
Wheezing can be a symptom of lung disease, asthma, bronchitis, a severe allergic reaction, or exposure to chemicals. Treatment depends on the cause. For example, if the cause is asthma, a nebulizer can help prevent asthma attacks.
Suicidal thoughts
Suicidal thoughts or suicidal behavior, or harming others, are signs of severe depression. Those experiencing these thoughts may believe that suicide is the only way to escape the obsessions and suffering in their lives. They should seek medical attention and may find relief by talking to a mental health professional.
