600 pharmacists enhance contraceptive counseling skills

The "Hormonal contraceptives: one stone, many birds" program series took place in multiple provinces and cities to standardize professional knowledge and counseling skills for pharmacists.

The event, co-organized by Organon Vietnam and the Vietnam Pharmaceutical Association, took place from 4-31/7 and attracted over 600 pharmacists. The program aims to improve understanding of the role of hormonal contraceptives in reproductive healthcare, emphasizing the crucial intermediary role of pharmacists in providing appropriate, personalized counseling on their use.

According to statistics from specialized units, daily contraceptive pills remain a common, effective, and accessible family planning method. However, incorrect dosage, missed pills, or inadequate counseling based on age and health conditions can reduce effectiveness and cause unwanted side effects.

At the meetings, leading experts in obstetrics and gynecology shared knowledge, provided updates, and discussed common counseling challenges with pharmacists. These included Associate Professor Doctor Huynh Nguyen Khanh Trang (Head of Obstetrics, Hung Vuong Hospital), Doctor Le Quang Thanh, Doctor Phan Chi Thanh, Doctor Lam Duc Tam, Master Doctor Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan, Doctor Tran Bao Chau, and Doctor Tran Quoc Huy.

At the event, Associate Professor Doctor Huynh Nguyen Khanh Trang, Head of Obstetrics at Hung Vuong Hospital, shared, "The daily contraceptive pill was a revolution for women, empowering them to take control of their lives and reproductive health".

As intermediaries between manufacturers and users, pharmacists are a critical link in ensuring safe and appropriate medication use. Therefore, according to the organizers, professional development programs like this will help standardize counseling skills and improve community healthcare.

An Organon Vietnam representative shared, "We want to support pharmacists not only in mastering pharmacological knowledge but also in understanding the needs of different user groups to provide tailored advice".

In Vietnam, Organon's contraceptive pills and women's health solutions have supported millions of women for over 40 years, leading the hormonal contraceptive market according to Iqvia's 2024 report.
