On 4/3, Director Feng of Fuhua Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Songyuan city posted a series of videos on social media documenting the birth of a baby to an elderly woman, according to United Daily News. At 9:53 AM on the same day, the woman gave birth to a baby girl weighing 2.8 kg via cesarean section, about two weeks earlier than expected. "I did not experience any pain or discomfort before the baby was born", the woman stated in a hospital announcement.

In a previous interview, the woman revealed her decision to have a child in her sixties stemmed from a family tragedy. Her only son died of cancer in early 2025 at the age of 35. This loss left the couple in deep despair. They decided to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF) with the belief that "their lost child had returned to them".
"Without this child, my husband and I would struggle to go on. I was determined to have a baby, no matter what", she shared.
This event garnered significant attention and sparked intense discussion on social media. Alongside blessings for the brave mother, many expressed concern: "Who will be responsible for the child's future?"
Addressing concerns about their ability to raise the child, the woman stated that she and her husband currently have a combined monthly pension of 20,000 yuan (approximately 76 million dong), along with income from their private business. She also expressed confidence in her health, noting that both her parents lived to be 90, and she has a contingency plan for her nephew to raise the child should anything unforeseen occur.
However, many online users strongly opposed the decision: "She is only satisfying her own emotions without considering the child's emotional needs. How can she bear for her child to face the pain of losing parents at such a young age?"
Medical experts warn that risks for mothers of advanced age are extremely high. Pregnancy complications, anesthesia risks, and the danger of postpartum hemorrhage increase exponentially. Doctors advise that older women wishing to conceive must undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation, strictly adhere to doctor's instructions, and manage their pregnancy at large hospitals with multidisciplinary emergency capabilities to ensure maximum safety for both mother and baby.
